Changes to the NCLEX and IELTS for Nurses

This is a repost of an article from Allvoices.com (user:stephaniegomez) about the changes of the NCLEX and IELTS - a must read for nurses.

Here's a summary:

Passing rate has changed from -0.16 logits to 0.00 logits. This change will take effect from April 1, 2013 until March 31, 2016.

The IELTS score required is still dependent on the institution and the state. Better check it with the institution first prior to taking the exam. You can read more about the IELTS requirements at http://rayearthnurse.blogspot.com/2013/11/ielts-requirements-in-philippines.html.

IELTS Requirements in the Philippines

Source: inquirer.net
The popularity of the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination is known to a lot of nationalities, most especially to Filipinos. The IELTS has been a very important part of the requirements Filipinos need to submit to the companies and academic institutions they are applying for. The need for an IELTS certificate to verify one’s expertise in the usage of the English language in its four core skills – reading, listening, speaking and writing - is a crucial requirement they have to complete. This is the very reason why Filipinos are preparing to take the IELTS examination by getting involved in classes and trainings in an IELTS review center.

In registering for the IELTS examination, there are certain requirements that one has to take note of. First off, candidates should know that there are two agencies that offer the IELTS examination – British Council and IDP. Both agencies deliver the same examination, but they have different fees charged to their applicants.

For the British Council, the candidate needs the following upon enrolment: a valid ID or a passport (valid IDs can be government IDs like SSS, GSIS, and TIN), a soft copy of your photographs, a copy of your previous IELTS test report for retakers, a valid VISA or MasterCard for online payments and a soft copy of the ID you will be using to register. For IDP, prepare your valid IDs, a photocopy of the ID you will be using, and two pieces of passport-sized photographs. About their IELTS fee, British Council charges Php 8986 and IDP costs Php 8900. The British Council charges a little higher because they give some review materials for their candidates. However, the exam content is still the same, so candidates need not worry if they have a different exam with candidates who registered for IDP.

The IELTS test is conveniently offered in different test locations here in the Philippines. IELTS is available in cities like Manila, Cebu, Davao, Baguio, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Naga, Cabanatuan, Tagaytay, Batangas, Pampanga and Lipa. Tests are usually delivered thrice a month in Manila, and once or twice in other cities. The best thing to know about these schedules is to check them online in IDP and British Council’s website for the availability of the test.

It is best for candidates to ask help from IELTS review centers to check the availability of exam dates. Moreover, IELTS review centers will double check all the candidates’ requirements for the exam registration. Visit the best IELTS review center near you and be ready for the IELTS examination.
